A Blog Series!

We are living in a time of great challenges in our world. Political divisions rile my home country, the United States like never seen in generations. Cultural divisions are fracturing families and institutions. The generation now in school years is having to recon with challenges that my generation did not experience until a much later time in life.

It is tempting to become engulfed in fear and anxiety of the future. On a personal level, this fear is embedded in the warnings of my own childhood in the 1980’s and 90’s to care for the environment and abstinence from certain pleasures. While the world seemed so simple in my generation’s childhood, the generation now coming up is already in the thick of this awareness. And it is leading to great challenges that rile them on a daily basis.

With challenges, come fears. With fears come anxiety. With anxiety come effects on self image and future hopes and dreams. With so much weighing down upon the generation of my children, I am stricken with the desire to rescue. As a parent, my desire is to see that my children have the best chance at a vibrant life, where they live in the truest version of their selves as possible. Yet, my life purpose goes beyond helping them find their ways out of the nest. Even more than the papa bear syndrome is a yearning to work through challenges faced by children who need hope and guidance the most.

This is my announcement: I will be getting back into blogging! In the past decade I have used different blog sites for different sectors of my life. Back in 2010, I started my academic blog, (“SingerTenor;” now called “Seek and You Shall Find,” covering Christian theology and applying it to many issues in everyday life. In 2011, I started a devotional blog named “SingSilence.” At the same time, with “SingLines” I compiled various approaches that I have made at poetry and song lyrics while contributing to it momentarily. Finally, in 2015, I started a blog called “MrNowlin” to think theologically and practically about teaching teaching in a Christian school, and ultimately in an urban public school.

Today, I am announcing that I will begin a new path toward the future of my blog. It has become challenging to manage four separate pages. Followers may see my posts on only one of my pages and then miss out on a new post on a different page. There is a need in my vocation to refrain from compartmentalizing in favor of moving forward in the most authentic way as possible. Details are still coming. But, to start this new stage in my blogging it is now favorable to concentrate on the area where I am most invested.

Before I conclude, I would like to invite you to subscribe to my blog, “Seek, and You Shall Find (Formerly SingerTenor)” if you have not done so already. Seek and You Shall Find will be the primary blog that I will post on moving forward. Then, look for a New Blog Series in which I reflect on how my personal life and my vocation are intermingled. This first series will discuss from my own faith perspective as an approach to the present challenges as an urban special educator.

Note that I wish to include in the conversation people who do not share the same faith as I do. I also want to involve perspectives that are different than mine. In encourage dialogue on how to best approach one’s life work in the most authentic and honest way.

As change is constant, so the response must evolve or else to become irrelevant. I hope that I can continue to contribute to mindsets that empower people to be the best versions of who they are. Thank you for your ‘follows’ as I look forward to ‘following’ you as well!
